Eccentric art was also at Basel, if not as dominant a presence as the traditional buys. Ghost Car by Kielnhofer was a large white van with hooded figures driving outside the fair, and the Bleifrei (which translates to Lead Free in German) Art Collective told Art Info: “Art is like Jesus; it died and it’s coming again.”

Light Art 1st glow

In cooperation with Light Art Biennial from Austria, Ptuj will host light objects by artists such as Manfred Kielnhofer, Christoph Luckeneder, Mounty R. P. Zentara and Alexandre Marucci. We have also invited Korean artist Jeongmoon Choi to exhibit her light drawings. Installations by Art Stays' artists (Dušan Fišer) will join and complement the visiting works of art. The Light Art Project is a conceptual upgrade of Art Stays projects from 2005, when the festival carried the name Light Please. The aim is to awaken life in the sleepy oldest Slovenian town. Each night, Ptuj will shine under the glow of the light installations and take a peek into a brighter future.

Interlux chair literally lights up the room.
Reminiscent of American minimalist artist Dan Flavin’s fluorescent light sculptures, this unique chair literally lights up the room. Manfred Kielnhofer plays with fluorescent light and transparent tubes that change colour creating an out of this world atmosphere. The chair is a composition of unique long neon lighting contained in transparent tubes placed horizontally; a surprise of what one can do with commercially available fluorescent light fixtures. Also available in environmentally friendly paper tubes.

Glowing Light Ball Bench by Manfred Kielnhofer
The “Glowing Light Ball Bench” created by Manfred Kielnhofer was present at the Light Art Biennial Austria. The bench, which has a very simple design, consists of three light balls and two wooden board perforates that lay over the light balls. Contrasting structural dynamics of the artist Manfred Kielnhofer provides analytically with his artistic work The "Glowing Light Ball Bench" more than one possible answer to this issue. Kielnhofer asks the viewer literally to an intellectual debate and intellectual, philosophical stimulation. Based on art and design relavante aspects of this work is based on philosophical thinking patterns that are complementary with social impact through the application and interaction. Materials and urban positioning, more variables which give the work of art this unique versatility and applicability. Whether moving, static, bright, swimming, driving, busy or isolated freestanding - the action itself defines the fine line to use artistic design, or art-oriented design to use. "The moment you try the artwork in my thoughts and words to capture, one realizes that this task almost limitless variations, offers viewpoints and approaches. Kielnhofer redeemed by shape, material, resulting in an avalanche of application functionality and solutions / results on different levels of perception."
Artist Manfred Kielnhofer will appear in the upcoming issue 9 of EYES IN Magazine.
